LONG TERM PLANNING CYCLES

At Bishopswood School, our three long-term planning cycles are designed to ensure that learning is sequential, progressive, and deeply embedded. By structuring our curriculum across these cycles, we enable pupils to build on prior knowledge, develop essential skills, and retain learning over time.

Each Key Stage prepares pupils for the next, ensuring they know more, remember more, and do more as they progress through their education. Learning is carefully scaffolded, allowing pupils to revisit and strengthen key concepts while gradually increasing the complexity of tasks. This approach ensures that skills are not only taught but practised, reinforced, and applied in real-life contexts, making learning meaningful and functional.

Through our Sensory, Communication, and Core Pathways, pupils experience a broad and balanced curriculum that fosters confidence, independence, and readiness for adulthood. Whether through academic learning, life skills development, or vocational experiences, our long-term planning ensures that every pupil is fully prepared for their next stage of education, employment, or independent living.
