Our EQUALS semi-formal curriculum focuses on the key areas of development; communication, cognition, self-care and independence. Pupils following our semi-formal curriculum learn best when learning is related to their own experience. Some may learn through play, others will learn more effectively through functional activities, and some will respond well to a thematic-based approach.
There are 12 schemes of work, as shown above, which are developmental in nature and open to personalisation – they start at the beginning of the individual pupil’s learning journey and aim for the highest level of independence possible. These cover all stages of education but are not directly related to either age or key stage and our pupils fit into them according to their individual abilities, interests and learning journey.
