BEHAVIOUR AND LEARNING
At Bishopswood, we believe that positive relationships and emotional wellbeing are the foundation for all learning.
Our approach to behaviour is proactive, consistent and rooted in understanding each pupil’s needs.
We build a calm, safe and supportive environment where every child can communicate, learn and thrive.
All staff are trained in Team Teach, using positive language, empathy and clear communication to help pupils feel secure and ready to learn.
Through our Zones of Regulation work, pupils learn to recognise and manage emotions, developing the self-regulation skills they need for life.
Each pupil has a personalised Behaviour Support Plan, regularly reviewed with staff, families and our behaviour lead.
We also provide ELSA sessions and other small-group or 1:1 support to help pupils build confidence, friendships and emotional literacy.
Where pupils need further support, we work closely with our Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy teams, as well as the school’s DSL and pastoral staff.
We also liaise with external professionals such as Educational Psychologists, CAMHS and Local Authority behaviour teams where appropriate.
Our approach to behaviour and learning is guided by our school values, Inclusivity, Innovation, Integrity, Resilience and Growth, ensuring every pupil is empowered, engaged and supported to succeed.
Behaviour is communication; understanding it helps every child to belong, achieve and flourish.
