THREE CURRICULUM PATHWAYS
Our curriculum is carefully tailored to meet the individual needs of our pupils. We provide three distinct learning pathways, ensuring every child accesses the curriculum in a way that best supports their learning journey.
Sensory Pathway
The sensory curriculum pathway is for pupils who have profound and multiple learning difficulties and disabilities. They require a very special approach to learning and high levels of adult support for their physical and personal care. The curriculum focuses on developing early skills in the seven key areas of learning and development.
The vision statement for this pathway is:
“Pupils will demonstrate active participation and initiation of interactions and experiences.”
Communication Pathway
The communication pathway is for pupils with Autism, severe learning difficulties and disabilities. The curriculum continues to build on previous learning and introduces subject-specific learning. There is also a focus on more independent learning opportunities.
The vision statement for this pathway is;
“Pupils will become engaged, communicative and confident learners through a skills-based
curriculum.”
Core Pathway
The core pathway is for pupils with more moderate learning difficulties and disabilities who are working at the level of National Curriculum attainment targets, although they may not be chronologically matched. Pupils receive an adaptation of the National Curriculum focused on developing relevant knowledge, understanding and skills and developing an independent problem-solving approach to learning.
The vision statement for this pathway is:
“Pupils will become independent learners through an enquiry-based curriculum”
