ASSESSMENT AND OUTCOMES
Assessment, Progress and Outcomes 2024-2025
Assessment at Bishopswood School is precise, consistent, and driven by our commitment to understanding every learner’s progress against their own starting points. We use B-Squared (Engagement Steps and Progression Steps) to track academic progress in English and mathematics and to monitor personal targets through Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) linked directly to each pupil’s EHCP outcomes. Evidence for Learning supports this process, allowing staff to capture and review learning in real time.
In 2024–25, assessment data shows sustained and significant improvement across all pathways. By the summer term, 93% of pupils met or exceeded expectations in English and 90% in mathematics, with ILP progress remaining consistently strong (94%+ meeting targets). The Core Pathway achieved the highest overall attainment, while targeted interventions in the Communication Pathway secured strong recovery after spring. Although variability remains within the Sensory Pathway, steady gains in English are evident following enhanced sensory curriculum development.
Leaders use half-termly data reviews and pupil progress meetings to analyse trends and ensure swift action for any pupil below expected progress. This systematic approach directly informs teaching, intervention, and professional development priorities.
Outcomes for 2025 leavers reflect the impact of this approach. Most Year 11 pupils achieved formal accreditation, including Functional Skills Entry Level qualifications in English and mathematics and Entry Level Awards in Creative Development. Pupils progressed successfully to a range of next destinations, including Reading College (Tier 2 and Tier 3 courses), local sixth forms, and one pupil gaining a place at the Army Foundation College.
Assessment information is used strategically by leaders to identify trends, strengthen curriculum design, and ensure continued improvement in teaching and learning. As a result, Bishopswood pupils leave well-prepared for their next steps, equipped with recognised qualifications, secure communication skills, and the confidence to thrive in their chosen pathways beyond school.
